Hummingbird Food

3 cups water

1 cup white table sugar

Bring the water to a boil before adding the sugar. When you put the sugar in the boiling water stir it until it is dissolved completely. Let it come to a boil again and then turn off the heat. Doing it this way helps to sterilize it somewhat and also helps to dissipate the chlorine if you have city or county water.

Wait for the sugary concoction to cool and then place it in the refridgerator in a clean lid tight container for atleast 24 hours before putting it in the feeder. This helps to stablelize it so that it doesn't spoil as quickly. Using a large feeder will also help retard spoilage for a few days.

Hummingbird food will keep in the refridgerator for two weeks. After that you may want to check for mold spoilage. If you're constantly taking away and adding to it, then it should be okay for longer periods but wash the container occasionally to prevent mold.

These beautiful birds don't like change so if you plan on putting up two feeders then I suggest that you buy four exzactly alike and interchange them. That way when you change out the food, the feeders will have a chance to dry completely. Eliminating most of the mold that will surely grow in one feeder that is used constantly.

Change the food when it becomes cloudy. On really hot days you'll need to change it every two or three days. When temperatures are over a hundred degrees you'll have to change the food out everyday. Remember if the hummingbird finds the feeder empty he won't come back.

In Monroe, NC the hummingbirds come in around the second week in April and leave about the middle of September.

 


Easy Strawberry Wine

4lbs frozen strawberries

2 1/2 lbs sugar

1tsp acid blend

1/8 tsp tannin

1 tsp yeast nutrient

1/2 tsp pectic enzyme

1 crushed campden tablet

1 pkt champayne yeast

1 gal water

4 cups water

1 cup sugar

Set your strawberries out to thaw before you boil the gallon of water. While the water is hot add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Place your strawberries inside a strainning bag inside a sterilized bucket or crockpot. Crush the berries as much as possible. Pour the sugar water over the crushed strawberries.

Place one cup of water in the microwave and heat it. Put your acid blend, tannin, pectic enzyme, yeast nutrient and one crushed campden tablet into the cup and stir until dissolved. Pour this solution over the strawberries and stir well.

Cover loosely with saran wrap or cheese cloth. Wait 24 hours and then sprinkle the package of yeast over your berries and stir well. Air needs to get in so the yeast can work so loosely cover your fermentor. Stir once a day for five days with a clean plastic spoon.

When it's time to remove the strainning bag boil 4 cups of water and add one cup sugar stirring until dissolved. You will need to let this mixture cool to room temperature before topping up.

Hold up the strainning bag and let the excess drip back into the wine. Do not squeeze. Take the bag and put it aside to be cleaned later when you're finished.

Siphon your wine into your sterilized secondary fermentor and use the boiled sugar water to finish filling your jug to make one gallon. Add your airlock.

Let sit for three weeks and then rack into another sterilized jug. Use a wine thief or turkey baster to remove one cup of wine. Add one cup of sugar to the wine and stir until dissolved and pour back into the jug. Reattach the airlock.

Let sit for three more weeks and then rack again adding one dissolved campden tablet this time. Wait three more weeks and rack again adding another crushed campden tablet and your wine is ready to be bottled.


Does a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar taken daily clear clogged arteries?

My leg stopped hurting. I'm guessing that it just thins the blood and that's what makes one feel better. Besides corroding the teeth and possibly giving you hyperkalemia from to much potassium I have to admit that vinegar does have its advantages.

I have blockages. Just found out a few weeks ago so I've started a regiment of garlic, honey and apple cider vinegar several times a week. Unfortunately I won't know if it cleared the blocked arteries until I go back to the doctor in six months. I'll post my answer then so check back to find out if vinegar really does clear clogged arteries.
